TO BELONG OR NOT TO BELONG!

Dr. Prerna Singla - to belong or not to belong!

De facto, if you hold a different interest, different thought, different belief or even a different social or superficial identity in a group of friends, acquaintances, groups, organizations or even country,  you are bound to face humiliation, harassment, aggression, insult and even mockery from the very people you say are your best friends, workmates, colleagues, system, organizations or even nation. People with a common belonging will always show intolerance towards minorities and people with unique interests, point of views, thoughts. They will insult you mock you, in a friendly or unfriendly way and at times even show hostile behavior towards you.

It is basic human nature. De jure, every individual has a right to opinion, life, and individual existence, but when the same person speaks about his/her views, interests, language, culture or belonging, they are told that "belonging" as a word is different from "belonging" as a moral. And if you choose to stand up for yourself, speak up for yourself, you are mocked, humiliated, intolerated and insulted even more.. you are asked to go where you belong and if want to belong with that group, you better keep your interests, beliefs, culture, language to yourself.. hence, the environment is made hostile for you to thrive or stay .. and at last when you react, or voice against it, you are blamed for ruining the show. 

God! even Jesus was brutally killed for being different. Ever wondered why the world's geniuses chose working alone.. in seclusion?? ... Chose not "belonging" but "belonging to self" .. chose not making friends but invest themselves in their passion, dreams, and work..?.. coz at some point in time, they too were humiliated and insulted for being different.. for carrying a different philosophy, different Outlook and different way of life..  they too faced intolerance from the ones that belong.. and hence they chose belonging to self  over belonging to unfriendly and intolerant settings. ... 

When I look around, I see such a human behavior everywhere, whether it is group of friends, or offices, work environments, communities, cultures, languages or even countries. ... The world was never about love, humanity or peace.. the world is about belonging, whether it is a small group of friends or one complete nation. If you are different, you are mistreated and you will always be.

At a personal level, I will always choose what the rare people in the world choose. I will always choose to belong to self, to a peaceful, fruitful, nurturing and purposeful solitude than to belong with a bunch of people telling you everyday that you do not belong, that something is wrong with you, that your aura is abusive, that your point of view your belief is absurd, that u're crazy or anything like that.... ... 

You know what sounds really absurd about the world?? "...To not belong to self and try to belong everywhere else". Smiles.
